I have a year old Maltese. The other night he started acting strangely. He didn't want to be touched. He was disoriented and fearful, and was twitching everywhere. He'd crouch/walk a few steps, and then sit. He became extremely anxious and hyperactive and began chasing his tail, round and round and round.
I took him to the animal hospital. They thought he had probably eaten something bad. Kept him on IV fluids overnight. Charcoal and a muscle relaxer. What is puzzling to me, is this isn't the first time it's happened. Could he have something neurological going on?
Hi
If this isn't the first time your dog has experienced these symptoms, then it's unlikely to be something he's ingested.... unless you have something toxic around the house, or a toxic plant in your yard that he could be getting to.
It's possible that he's experiencing some sort of neurological issue, perhaps mild epilepsy. It's impossible for me to say though as I'm not a vet and this little guy needs to be evaluated by your own vet and do let them know that he's experienced these symptoms more than once.
There are medications to treat seizure disorders etc., but only a vet can say whether or not this is necessary for your dog, or even if that is indeed the problem.
The sooner you get a diagnosis the better, so I'd definitely advise taking him to your vet. Best of luck, hope you get it figured out.
