10 mths old cavalier king charles excessing pooing. Is it ill?

by Mongers

My mum's cavalier king charles is 10 months old - has a very strict diet of dog food only - isn't ever allowed tit bits or scraps etc.

For the past 4 days has been pooing excessively for her size - she seems fine in herself, but now her poo is also quite loose.

is this anything to be concerned about?

Hi Mongers
If this is a new behavior for your moms' dog and she hasn't had a change in diet, then it could be that she has some sort of digestive upset.

It's possible that she's gotten into something she shouldn't have (without your mom noticing - holiday times can be pretty hectic), or if there has been a lot of disruption to her routine during Christmas and so on, it could be stress-related. There are all sorts of possibilities.

As she seems happy and healthy otherwise I don't think you need to panic about this yet, but if it doesn't improve within 24 - 48 hours, or she shows any other signs of illness, then I'd definitely recommend that you have her examined by your vet asap.

Check out my Puppy Diarrhea page for more tips and advice on dealing with loose stools, and to learn what symptoms mean trouble. If in doubt though, contact your vet.

Best of luck. Hope she is back to normal soon.
