my dalmatian puppy would shake her head and create a lot of saliva. while she does this or when she's about to stop she pees and poops some.
vet said that it's a seizure but wasn't for sure what could be causing it. after she does that she runs around the room like she's confused or scared. when doesn't do that she's whining, howling or bark or a combination at everyone else including our other adult dogs even if they didn't even touch her or anything.
what could possible be wrong??
Hi Marissa
I'm sorry to hear about what your puppy is going through, it definitely sounds like she's having seizures and the behavior you describe afterwards is a pretty normal reaction.
She's not feeling good and she doesn't understand what is happening, she feels agitated, anxious and scared and doesn't know what to do. Sometimes a pup will then become very sleepy and nap for quite some time.
I'm afraid only your veterinarian can figure out what is causing her to seize. If it happens more than a couple of times you definitely need to get her back to your vet for further evaluation.
There are treatments that can help a puppy or dog who is having a lot of seizures, but for the occasional one most vets will just wait and see what happens. Sometimes they're a one-off (or only two or three), and never come back - other times they indicate an on-going neurological problem (perhaps epilepsy) that needs treatment.
I'm not a vet myself so I can only recommend that you get your puppy help if she has any more seizures and try to keep her calm and quiet afterwards if at all possible.
I wish you the very best of luck and hope that she makes a full recovery.
