I am raising 2 yorkie pups whose mom passed during Cesarean birth. These pups have been eating very well until today, and they act uninterested in the bottle. They still have firm stools and they aren't dehydrated. Could they have tummy aches?
I am feeding evaporated milk with water and karo. Is there anything I could give them? They have been eating about 1 to 2 tablespoons every 21/2 hrs and they are 11 days old. Please help
Thanks
Hi
It sounds as though you've been doing really well so far with these little ones, but not eating is a big problem in such young (and tiny) puppies. They can get dehydrated very quickly, and puppies that aren't eating get chilled too.
Puppies do best on a proper formula that's been designed for puppies, but if you want to make up something yourself I'd suggest taking a look at this page Bottle Feeding and check out the homemade bottle feeding recipe. I think it's the best around.
If your pups don't start drinking normally soon you need to get them veterinary attention, even if it means a trip to a 24 hour or emergency clinic.
I wish you the best of luck and hope they're doing better soon.
