Hi I have an 11 week old Yorkie she weighs about two pounds. She is always very playful, never shakes, eats and drinks water in normal amounts.
This morning she woke up fine went to the bathroom and was playing. All of the sudden she started whimpering and came to my lap and fell asleep. She woke up shivering uncontrollably and would not move around when she was put on the floor. She then went right back to sleep. She awoke again with the same symptoms.
This has never happened before what should I do?
Hi
I strongly recommend that you take your pup to see a veterinarian as soon as possible, any sudden change in behavior/attitude is cause for concern and you need someone to evaluate her one-on-one and find out what is wrong.
Tiny breeds like Yorkies can have difficulty regulating their blood sugar levels, and if the blood sugar drops too low, or too quickly, they can get hypoglycemia. This often results in lethargy, disorientation, shaking, vomiting and so on. It's possible that this is your pups' problem, and if she's going too long between feeds, or has been especially active, perhaps on an empty tummy, I'd consider this as a cause.
Giving her some Karo syrup can help to raise her blood sugar levels and may help, but she needs to be seen by a vet as this is just one possible reason for her symptoms. It's always better to act fast and to be safe rather than sorry, so don't 'wait and see', have her checked out asap.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope she's doing much better soon.
