2 of 7 pups have a yellowish nasal discharge

2 of 7 pups out of a litter that is 5 1/2 weeks old, have yellowish discharge from the nose. Some sneezing going on at times. The litter has been wormed 3 times and soon for the 4th. (1st set of puppy shots) have been given.

Not sure about the nasal discharge? I know it's infection 99.9% sure, but what kind? they are drinking and eating just fine. The same two are half the size of the litter mates.

Hi Melissa
It's not terribly unusual for puppies to get an upper respiratory tract infection, and nasal discharge and sneezing are common symptoms.

However, a simple infection like this can turn serious, sometimes developing into pneumonia, so I would definitely recommend that you take these little guys to your vet. They may need antibiotics or other treatment.

A runny nose can also be an early symptom of several more serious dog illnesses, and although they've had their first set of puppy shots, that by no means gives them immunity.

The infection may be causing some more systemic problems if these pups are significantly smaller than the others too, so please get them examined by your vet just as soon as you can.

Best of luck with your litter, hope they are all 100% healthy soon.
