3 month chihuahua extremely ill

by sarah
(san diego)

I have a 3 month chihuahua. He became extremely sick in a matter of hours. He doesn't have vomiting or diarrhea so I know its not parvo.

However, he can't lick. When he tries to get his food from his bowl it falls from his mouth as if he has no teeth. When he tries to drink water it just pours to the floor. He left his blanket full of saliva and is very lethargic.

Hi Sarah
I'm sorry to hear your puppy is so sick. You're probably correct that this isn't parvo, the symptoms aren't a good 'fit'.

However, your puppy is definitely ill and needs veterinary attention immediately. He can't eat or drink and is at serious risk of dehydration (which can cause severe problems itself) at the very least.

It sounds as though there may be a neurological or nerve problem, but it could be that he's ingested something toxic.

Please don't 'wait and see' but take your puppy to a vet right away. His life could depend on it.

I wish you the best of luck and hope your little guy is feeling much better soon.
