3 Month old dachshund has swollen anus and walks funny

by Kathy Blan
(Canada)

My 3 month old dachshund has a swollen anus and seems to not want to walk. When he does walk, he drags his back legs and they do not seem sturdy.

He has been this way for a few days. Also, when I pick him up, he sometime will whine but not all the time.

Hi Kathy
This sounds like new behavior for him, and so an injury of some sort is a possibility. Also, I'm wondering if he could be constipated?

Constipation in puppies can cause the anus to swell as unpassed feces put pressure on it. I'm not a vet, but I would imagine that if the constipation is severe it could also cause pain/discomfort in certain areas and may even cause him to have difficulty walking.

I strongly recommend that you have your veterinarian examine this pup as soon as possible, so that you can get to the root of the problem and get any necessary treatment started.

Best of luck with your pup.
