Is it normal for a 4 month young golden lab to be a total pig? she eats everything, wants food all day. knocks me over to get to the bowl..

Hi Jeff
Well, puppies are like children - all different, and constantly going through phases and stages.

It's not unusual for a large breed puppy to eat a lot, they're growing at a phenomenal rate and need lots of nutrition to fuel that growth.

DO make sure you are feeding her a premium puppy food, specifically designed for large breed puppies. A pup will need to eat a lot more of a low-quality food in order to get the nutrients it needs, and will also be consuming lots of fillers, additives and 'junk'. Check out my Dog Food Ratings page for a list of some of the best foods on the market.

If your pup hasn't been dewormed several times, I would have your veterinarian do a fecal test to check for worms/parasites and administer any medications if necessary. Worms can make a puppy ravenously hungry, as they get all the nutrition from his food, leaving him constantly hungry.

Some pups and dogs are just 'chow hounds', but if you are concerned about your puppy I would recommend talking it over with your vet so that he can advise you.

Best of luck with your pup.
