4 week old pit bull puppy

My puppy is pooping red blood is this bad?

We are also giving her hard food should we be giving her soft food?

Hi
Blood in your puppy's poop is definitely not a good thing. However, it can mean something simple, such as irritation in the colon due to a change in diet for example. Or it could be a symptom of a serious, contagious Dog Illness.

At 4 weeks old, this puppy should still be with her momma. She's old enough to be getting weaned, but is still a tiny baby.

A good quality, dry puppy food soaked for a few minutes in warm water is a good starting point. As she gets bigger and stronger, she'll be fine with just dry puppy food. Check out my Puppy Kibble page for more information on feeding your puppy.

If your puppy seems perfectly healthy, happy and active and is eating and drinking normally, I don't think you need to panic about the blood in her stool. Just take her to the vet on Monday and have her checked out.

However, if she is having recurring diarrhea, is vomiting, isn't eating and/or drinking and seems tired and disinterested in what is going on around her - take her to a veterinarian immediately. A 24 hour pet hospital if necessary.

That's because she could have a serious illness, such as Parvo. This needs emergency attention as she could get very, very sick and even die.

I wish you the best of luck with her.
