I have a litter of saint bernard puppies and they recently started their worming series but today one of them was acting like her leg was bothering her and she will not move. We originally thought her leg was broken and called a vet who would not come out to assist us at his office.
After feeling around on her she did not cry if we touched her legs or moved her joints. When we touched her belly she would let out a blood curling screech and is now continuously crying. We then attempted a puppy enema with little success.
She is now resting in a crate away from the other dogs and resting comfortably but still crying. Also she will not move in anyway shape or form. Also when I went down with the other puppies tonight I noticed another one starting to limp. HELP!!!!
Hi Brian
You need to get this puppy to your veterinarian right away.
I'm afraid I can't say what's causing the problem, and I've never personally seen or experienced this issues, but I would definitely say it's serious and you need some 'hands-on' vet help right away.
The faster you are in getting an accurate diagnosis, and the right treatment started, the better the chance of full recovery.
This is not normal behavior for a healthy pup and you need to have her (and perhaps any other puppies who are showing signs of illness) seen by your vet now. If your own vet is closed, find a 24 hour pet hospital or emergency facility and take her there.
I'd also strongly advise that you don't try any home-made remedies, or try the enema, as you don't know what is causing the pain etc. It's not a good idea to give a young puppy an enema without being shown exactly how to do it either - you could damage something internally by accident.
I wish you the very best of luck with these little ones and hope your pup makes a full, and speedy, recovery.
