5 month maltese throws up clear liquid a couple times a day

My maltese puppy has been throwing up occasionally for the past month.

He is full of energy and bowel movements are normal. Is this anything to be worried about?

Hi Amy
As your puppy seems to be happy and healthy apart from this vomiting, I doubt it's anything serious such as a contagious dog illnesses etc.

It's more likely that this is a sort of 'bilious' vomiting, due to a too-empty tummy.

Small and tiny dog breeds have very fast metabolisms and tiny tummies, and they use up their food very quickly. If their tummies get too empty then the acid builds up and can cause this sort of problem.

A good way to avoid this is to make sure that they eat several smaller meals during the day rather than one or two larger ones. Also, give them a couple of plain dog biscuits last thing at night so that they don't wake up with an empty tummy.

If you find this doesn't help, or you notice any other signs of illness then it's important to get your puppy examined by a veterinarian so that you can find out what is really going on. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

Best of luck!
