6 mo. old Rotti pup has lost fur in 2 spots on his back. No apparent rash in this area.

Our Rotti has lost fur in two area, no rash and doesn't lick at the area. Any ideas?

There can be several different reasons for puppy hair loss, including dog allergies. However as he doesn't seem to be itchy, and the area doesn't look irritated or inflamed, allergies probably wouldn't be my first guess.

Mange in dogs causes patchy hair loss, but not necessarily itching or irritation, and this could be what's behind these bare spots. But mange is most likely to start on the muzzle, head or forelegs, so it's not necessarily a perfect choice either.

I can only recommend that you have your vet take a look at your pup - he can test for mange by taking a skin scraping - as he is in the best position to make a diagnosis.
