My 6 month old female chihuahua was up all night. It seemed like was constantly hiccuping. But that's not what was going on. There was no coughing, no noise at all. The next day she was fine like nothing happened.
She gets hiccups a lot and this lasted hours and was different.I was on the internet all night trying to find answers. She doesn't have symptoms of a collasping trachea. I read a number of articles on that. I do not believe that's it. Perhaps you have an idea.
She is fine now. It's Saturday. I will call my vet on Monday. But to bring her in would be foolish since she's fine. Could she have had a reaction to a food. Perhaps her throat closed up?
Hi Nellie
I wish I had an answer to your question, but I've never seen/experienced something like that and your veterinarian is the only person who may be able to make a diagnosis, but as the 'hiccuping' has passed that may be difficult.
Puppies often do hiccup, they grow out of it as they mature - but these 'fits' don't usually last all night! Reverse sneezing is another possibility, but again it's usually something that lasts for only a minute or two.
It's possible that she had something stuck in her throat, or it was irritated for some reason... either by something she ate, or it got scratched by a stick or a toy or bone. But these are only guesses I'm afraid.
Hopefully your vet will be more helpful, sorry I couldn't come up with anything concrete. I hope your little girl doesn't have to go through that again though. Best of luck
