7 month old border collie with sudden diarrhea.

My puppy has developed very bad diarrhea this evening.

The only different thing around is that I have been painting with latex paint, he has been around but has been outside a lot. He is playing well and eating and drinking. He has had 2 realy bad bouts in the house.

Is this a puppy thing? and what do I do. He is on puppy chow only. We live out in the country, maybe he got into something that I did not notice but however doubt it.

Thanks.

Hi
Unless he actually ingested the paint, I doubt fumes alone would give him diarrhea, although if he's especially sensitive it could upset him.

It's more likely that he got into something he shouldn't, especially if you've been busy and he's been amusing himself. Out in the country there are tons of things a dog can try to eat that he shouldn't ( I know this because I live in rural Oklahoma and own dogs!!)

Sometimes the results of a forbidden 'snack' are just a few bouts of diarrhea and/or vomiting and a dog that looks 'pitiful and sorry for himself' for a day or so. Other times it can means some serious tummy upset and a trip to the vet, or worse.

As your pup seems to be well otherwise, I don't think you need to worry too much just yet. However, if he continues to have diarrhea and/or vomiting, or acts as though he's feeling unwell, I would strongly recommend taking him to your vet just to be on the safe side. Best of luck!
