7 week old chocolate labrador breathing erratically

Hi, we got our puppy two days ago and since we had him his breathing both when he is awake and when he is asleep seems erratic.

He is eating and drinking and toileting as he should and is otherwise fine, he is playful and assumingly happy but his breathing is concerning me because it seems quite fast even

Hi Toni
Puppies do tend to breathe fairly fast, and it can seem erratic especially when they're sleeping. Sometimes they'll breathe very fast, other times they'll seem to take a very long pause before the next breath and it can be a bit scary for new owners!

As long as your pup is eating, drinking, playing and acting 'normal', chances are this is nothing to worry about. However, it's always a good idea to have your own vet check out a new pup within a day or so of bringing him/her home. That way you can be sure he's 100% healthy and up to date on all , deworming and so on.

At a check up your vet will also listen to your pups' heart and lungs and make sure everything is okay. I'd suggest mentioning your concerns to your vet during the check up and I'm sure he'll be able to put your mind at rest.

Hope this helps some, best of luck with your new puppy.
