My 7 week siberian alaskan husky keeps having diarrhea, we took 2 of the other pups to the vet because their stool was coming out with like mucus and we were concerned if they had round worms or hook worms. it turned out to be that they had drank some dirty water.
We were taking them outside to go to the bathroom so they can start learning where to go but after we found this out we been keeping them inside at all times. They already have their first parvo shot, could it be possible that she has the same thing the other two have?
If so is there anything i can give her off the counter as far as medicine to treat it or do i have to take her to the vet?
Thank you,
Ruth L.
Hi Ruth
I strongly recommend that you have this puppy examined by your veterinarian as well.
It's possible that she has the same problem that the others experienced, but there are just so many possible reasons for puppy diarrhea, some of them very serious, that it's never a good idea to 'wait and see'.
There are no otc medications that you can use to treat a puppy with diarrhea as it's the cause of the problem that you need to treat, not just the symptom. Do make sure she's drinking plenty of clean, fresh water though so that she doesn't get dehydrated.
One shot doesn't give them full protection unfortunately, but if these little ones haven't been off your property and haven't been in contact with any other, sick or unvaccinated dogs, then hopefully it's not something like Canine Parvovirus, Distemper etc.
Coccidiosis or Giardia are possibilities, but only your vet can make an accurate diagnosis.
Best of luck, hope she's doing much better soon.
