What is the best way to treat a 7 week old puppy with fleas?
Hi
Fleas can be a problem in young puppies, and need to be treated to prevent any problems arising in the future.
If your puppy is still with it's momma, treating her with an effective 'spot-on' (topical) flea and tick medicine such as Frontline Plus is the best way to go.
The fleas will jump back and forth between the momma and pups and the medication on the mom will kill them. If your pup is no longer with it's mom I would recommend checking with your vet as to the best treatment.
A pup of 8 weeks or older can be treated with Frontline for puppies, but younger than that it's not safe. Your vet will be able to advise you further.
Using OTC flea sprays/powders/shampoos/collars etc. is not very effective and often not safe for younger puppies.
