7 mth old female jack russel terrier has blood continuously on area where she urinates from.
Seems in good form though, could it be a uti or something more serious?
Hi Michelle
My guess would be that your pup is in her first heat cycle or 'season'.
Most puppies come into season for the first time somewhere between 6 and 8 months of age. It's nothing to be concerned about, but obviously during this time you need to keep her away from intact males or she could get pregnant.
It's recommended that all female dogs who are not show dogs who are bred to improve and continue the breed, should be spayed. This helps to prevent reproductive organ disorders and conditions including cancer, and also obviously eliminates the possibility of an 'oops' litter of puppies.
I'd recommend that you talk to your vet about having your little girl spayed now that she is sexually mature.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your pup.
