8 month old Yorkie puppy with sudden onset of lethargy, vomiting, head bobbing, biting his hind legs and genital area. He walks fine. No discharge anywhere.
This happened one other time several weeks ago and it lasted a few hours.
Hi Diane
The symptoms you describe could be a sign of hypoglycemia, which is a drop in blood sugar levels and is not unusual in small and tiny breeds such as Yorkies.
Get some Karo syrup or something similar (a little honey will do in a pinch), and rub it on his gums. If it helps, then you've found the problem.
These tiny breeds can have trouble regulating their blood sugar levels as their tummies are tiny, and their metabolisms fast. It means that they need to eat more often than the larger breeds.
If this doesn't seem to be what is causing the problem, I can only recommend that you take your pup to the vet and have him get a full exam. That way your vet should be able to get to the root of the problem.
If you do find that the Karo syrup helps, but this keeps happening (even with more frequent feedings etc.), then take him to the vet and discuss it with him.
Hope this helps. Best of luck with your pup.
