8 month yorkie won't go outside

by denise
(florida)

Our 8 month yorkie goes every now in then on pee pad and does number 2 next to the pee pad. We need help!!!

He has been this way since we got him in dec ;(. He lives on the patio which is bricked in and air conditioned.

Hi Denise
Using potty pads is always a bit tricky! I would suggest using a crate to train your puppy, whether you want him to use the pads, grass or whatever.

The earlier you start the better, but at 8 months old he still has plenty of time to learn. My Crate Training page has tons of information, tips and advice on crate training that can help you.

If he's outside on the patio, you might also want to consider using a litter box, or even better a box with some sod/grass in it instead. You can buy these online or even just make your own and change out the sod fairly frequently. The advantage of this is that he will become accustomed to 'going' on grass which will help later on.

Best of luck!
