8 week old lab puppies ate lots of foam... need help!

My 8 week old black lab pup ate a good handful of foam mattress about 2 hours ago...

Is there anything I can do to prevent it from blocking up her system?

Hi
This may cause them problems, or it may not. A lot depends on how small they managed to make the foam pieces before they ingested them!

All you can do for now is to watch them carefully for signs of a problem. Symptoms of a bowel/colon obstruction may include any of the following...

Vomiting or retching (possibly with nothing actually coming up)

Straining to poop (again with very little or nothing coming out)

Signs of pain/distress such as pacing, panting, whining, drooling, whining etc.

Distended or swollen belly.

If your pups seem to be acting 'out of the ordinary' in any way then I would definitely recommend having them examined by your vet asap.

Otherwise keep watching their bowel movements for the foam to be expelled. Hopefully it will pass through without a problem.

Best of luck.

by: Cherl Iselin

hi my puppy also did this by ripping a hole in his bed and eating alot of it at 10 weeks old, but his stomach actually regurgitated it back up on it's own, Hopefully your pups' will do the same within 24-48 hrs. If not take him to your vet to get checked out. good luck, I hope he will be okay, I am AVID DOG LOVER!!
