8 week old male pitbulls

Hello

We just got two male pitbulls puppies and they are 8 weeks old. They tend to lick each other on the genitals and bite each other down there. Is this normal?

Also, I saw something pink coming from one on the puppies genitals. Is that normal also? What was that?

Hi Jenae
Sniffing the genital area is a common sort of greeting between dogs. Licking and biting is similarly common amongst siblings, it's just a form of play. However, it should just be a part of other play type behavior. Your puppies are just babies right now and will probably play a bit roughly with each other.

As for the pink you noticed on one puppies genital area, I'm guessing what you're seeing is his penis extending outside of it's 'sheath'. And, yes, this is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

In puppies, any kind of excitement can cause this to happen, even play or being petted, it's a subconscious reaction on the puppys' part and not sexual. It may increase during adolescence.

Once mature, this is what will happen if your male was to mate with a female. However, I would strongly suggest that you get your puppies neutered before they are six months old.

It protects against unwanted litters, as well as reproductive organ cancers and disease. Pitbulls are great dogs, loving, loyal and good natured, but they do have a natural tendency towards being dog aggressive when adult (NOT people aggressive, there's a big difference). Two adult, intact, males in your home is a recipe for trouble I'm afraid.

Hope this helps a bit, best of luck with your two babies.
