Five days ago i bought an 8 week old poodle and his name is TUFU and 1ST 2 days he was very active and on 3rd day i gave him a 1/4 part of a tablet to kill his worms. Then i found dead worms in his stool and he was very active. After i gave him a Goat meat soup, the soup had some goat fat. After drinking that meat soup my TUFU stated loose motion(White in color).
1st day :- To get off from this situation i started to give him Rehydrol(against dehydration) and popcorn hairs soup against the lose motion. But this also not helped him.
2nd day :- Next day early morning i went to Vet Dr.and he gave antibiotics +protein+vit - iv injection.and i return to my home with my Tufu. At home i gave 2ml rehydrol in every 10 minutes interval. But again in evening TUFU started loose motion of green color and also started vomiting with small bubbles.
3rd day :- Again i went to Dr and dr did the same procedure as he did on 2nd day.
...... Today is 3rd day and now my tufu is very very weak and silently sitting in on a couch and when I gave Rehydrol to him after half an hour he vomits it.
Today also Tufu had green color loose motion.
Now I'm very very afraid and requesting you to please help me out.Actually I cannot see him in this condition. I know it happens with my Tufu just because of the fatty meat soup.
Please tell me wat can I do for him.
Hi Sunil
Any sudden change in diet can cause loose stools and you can read all about the causes and treatment of this on my Puppy Diarrhea
I'm afraid I'm not a veterinarian or an animal health professional - just a dog owner and lover with many years of hands-on experience! Personally I think that this puppy has had too many changes and medications in a very short period and that's what's making him sick.
Unless the goat meat soup was bad, the worst it is likely to have caused was the loose stools and if you had not fed it to him again he should have recovered within 24 - 48 hours. I know how difficulty and worrying it is to see your puppy feeling unwell, but I think perhaps you over-reacted a little here (although being overly cautious is definitely better than being not careful enough!).
There's no reason to give him antibiotics unless he has an infection that needs treated. These medications can also cause loose stools or diarrhea/vomiting or general tummy upset. They're vital if there is an infection, but otherwise not needed.
Also, if he's drinking okay and not vomiting up the water he really doesn't need a medication for dehydration. There's just too many different things in his tummy and if he's not eating properly then it's no wonder he's feeling ill.
Providing he doesn't have any other health problems and doesn't have an illness or infection I'd recommend stopping the medications altogether and feeding him just plain white boiled rice (maybe with a little chicken broth added if you have it) for 24 hours. This should help firm up the stools. Also make sure he has plenty of fresh water available and that he's drinking it.
After 24 hours if he's doing better you can start mixing a little dry puppy food (make sure it's a good quality puppy kibble) with the rice and gradually increase the puppy food and decrease the rice over a couple of days until he's eating just his puppy food.
Hopefully this will give his tummy a chance to settle down and he'll start to feel and act much better. Of course, if he continues to vomit or can't drink or keep water down then you will need your vet to help you though, so if you're still worried or he doesn't improve get him back to your vet.
I hope this helps a bit and that Tufu is doing much better soon.
