Hello
I have a 8 weeks old female rottweiler pup of weight 11lbs and height 11 inches. Is her weight and height normal or she is growing very slow?
What should be minimum and maximum height and weight of a female rottweiler pup at eight weeks?
When we bought her she ate dog food fine. But after one day she had loose motions and was cured within three days. After that she didn't want to eat anything even milk. We have to force feed her. We have dewormed her yesterday but there is no progress in her eating habit.
Why is she behaving like that? Is there some serious problem? Vet has suggested us to wait for sometime.
Hi
Actually, your puppy is about average in terms of weight/size, I don't think you have anything to worry about there. It's not really possible to give minimum or maximum numbers for puppies as there can be such a huge variation, even between pups in the same litter.
It's also not unusual for a puppy to lose their appetite for a few days, or maybe a week or so, after coming into a new home. It's part of their response to the stress from all the changes going on in their lives.
I wouldn't advise giving her milk, dogs can't digest this properly and it leads to diarrhea and tummy upsets. Also, don't try to 'force' her to eat, even by feeding her tid-bits or treats etc., this can encourage bad eating habits later on.
Nature won't allow her to starve herself, and she will start eating again once she starts to feel comfortable in her new home.
I think your vet's suggestion to wait a little while is a good one. Unless she shows signs of illness or disease I wouldn't worry. Just make sure she gets her vaccinations on time and let her adjust in her own way. As new puppy parents, you might find my New Puppy Care page helpful.
Best of luck with her!
