my 9 week old chihuahua has a loose stool and has a small amount of blood in it . She has been dragging her butt too, does this mean parvo?

am really scared!please help!

Hi Carmen
Unless your puppy has repeated episodes of diarrhea and vomiting, and seems lethargic and sick, then I doubt that the symptoms that you describe alone mean that she has Canine Parvovirus.

What's more likely is that she has some puppy worms which are very, very common in puppies. 'Scooting' on the ground is often an indication of worms. A little trace of bright red blood in the stool indicates irritation or inflammation of the colon, which can happen with worms, or it could be that she's a little constipated and the blood is from her anus.

I would recommend that you have her examined by your vet as soon as you can to make sure that everything is okay. If she hasn't been dewormed recently (pups need to be dewormed by a vet, not with over the counter products) then she needs to be treated. They need to be dewormed at least 3 times, usually when they get their puppy shots during those first few months.

Of course, if (in addition to the one loose stool and tiny bit of blood) she's showing any signs of illness, or seems sick in any way, get her to a vet immediately, as it's always better to be safe than sorry. Best of luck with your pup.
