We have a new airedale puppy. She seems perfectly healthy and curious. She eats well is gaining wait, normal peeing and pooping etc. She seems totally normal in every way but she often screams in pain when she yawns. She does not appear to be tender or uncomfortable but she the screams are very disconcerting.
After the episode, if you can call it that, she seems perfectly normal in every way. She shows no signs of pain around her head, doesn't scratch her ears or anything.
Any ideas?
Hi Jez
Puppies and dogs often do make a squealing sound when they yawn, I've really no idea why they do it, but it's generally not an indication of pain or distress. Just something they do.
As your puppy seems happy, healthy and active in every other way, I doubt that this is anything to worry about.
However, I'd recommend discussing this with your veterinarian and having him give her a quick check up to make sure nothing is wrong. It could be that for some reason she is in pain, and this isn't the normal 'squealing' that I'm referring to above. But it's impossible for me to tell without seeing her, so your vet is the person to get in touch with.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your new puppy.
