My husband just took our 9 week old yorkie puppy out to go potty. He went poo and pee without any problem but as he was coming upstairs he starts this "I'm in pain" yelping.
We check him out and he seems to be yelping more when we get to his mouth? Maybe he ate a bee we wonder? But 10-15 minutes later he is fine and all we can see/HEAR is LOTS of gas bubbles in his tummy. (no facial swelling/breathing problems) He was just in his kennel all night, eats Eukanuba dry puppy food and just got his first puppy shots and de-worm Saturday.
Now he is playing/mouthing toys but still has gas bubbles in tummy... Should we be concerned? Anything we can do?
What was this mysterious yelping in pain for 10 minutes????
Hi Amy
It's impossible to say what caused him to start acting as though he was in pain I'm afraid because there are just so many possibilities!
As you said, perhaps he swallowed a bee, or was bitten/stung by an insect, or stepped on something sharp, or just had a tummy ache or.... the list goes on.
The main thing is that he seems to be feeling better now and is no longer in pain or upset, so chances are this was just some minor 'ouch' that has passed.
The gas bubbles could simply be because he got a bit too empty overnight (small breed pups need to be fed at least 3 times a day, 4 is better, at this age as they have tiny tummies and speedy metabolisms), or he may have eaten something he shouldn't... again several possibilities.
I wouldn't worry too much over this right now as it seems to have been a transient occurence, BUT if he repeats it, his tummy doesn't settle down, or he seems unwell in any way then I'd recommend having your veterinarian check him out just to make sure all is well.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your puppy.
