The Dachshund

Dachshund puppy

The friendly, fun loving Dachshund holds the Number 6 spot in the canine popularity polls here in the US (according to AKC figures).

This sociable little dog has many admirers and is a familiar sight in any town or city and can often be seen peering out of car windows or trotting jauntily down the street.

Anyone who's seen the Petsmart advertisement featuring a Dachshund would have to admit to finding it difficult to resist saying "Aaahh.., how cute is that?".

I did it my way!

Originally bred in Germany to hunt Badgers and Hares this brave little dog has quite a few 'terrier' character traits.

Comes in 3 coat types - short-haired, long-haired and wire-haired. Also comes in 2 sizes - normal (standard) and miniature

Most often seen today as a companion dog.

In a nutshell!

Dachshund dog The Dachshund is a bold, lively, loving little dog. Good family companion but is better with older children as it can be a bit jealous and stubborn.

This breed makes a good apartment dog and traveling companion. It's fun loving, clownish behavior is endearing.

Likes to bark and dig, moderately protective. Due to high prey drive instincts it doesn't do well with other small pets.
