The Poodle

According to AKC figures, the Poodle is No. 8 in the popularity polls in the USA today.

It's a stylish, intelligent and popular breed with a host of faithful admirers.

Available in Standard, Miniature and Toy varieties so there's something for everyone!

Brains & beauty combined

Although people tend to think of this breed as being French, it in fact originated in Germany, and was bred mainly as a water retriever. It's name actually means 'to splash in water'.

Although originally used as hunters in many European countries the Poodle is now mostly seen as a companion dog.

AKC Group: Standard - Non-Sporting
Miniature & Toy - Toy

Country of Origin: Germany

Size: Comes in three sizes. Standard, miniature and toy

Height: Standard - over 15 inches Miniature - 10 to 15 inches Toy - under 10 inches

Color: Most solid colors including blue, grey, white, brown, black, red and sable

Possible Health Concerns: Bloat, hip dysplasia, skin disorders, epilepsy, luxating patellas.

In a nutshell!

The Poodle is fascinating, intelligent and very loving towards it's family but can be a little aloof with strangers. Normally good with children.

It's a very trainable breed that needs plenty of exercise and mental stimulation to keep it happy. The hypoallergenic nature of it's coat makes this breed a popular choice for those with allergies.
