Gracie as a puppy

Gracie as a puppy

In May 2006 I graduated from college, went back home, started the job hunt, and eventually jumped into the real world.

I was living with my parents, driving about a 3 hour commute total a day, and had absolutely no social life.

I was sad, lonely, and felt like something was missing. I had talked with my parents for weeks about the possibility of adopting a new puppy, but they were not sure how our other animals (2 cats & 2 dogs all over the age of 15) would handle it.

On September 16, 2006 I found Gracie. Our local Petsmart has an annual fall adoption event where all of the local shelters bring in animals that are hoping to be adopted.

Gracie was in a huge litter. She was the runt of the pack and when found she was terribly ill. At 12 weeks old she was healthy and oh so sweet. I knew she was the puppy for me as soon as I held her. She nuzzled her sweet little face into my neck and hair.

She was not full of energy, but rather relaxed and laidback. I knew thats what I needed for her to get along with the older dogs (15 and 17 years old).

Since adopting her just over a year ago I have been so much happier. I know she has not only touched my life though. My older dogs developed a new spring in their step as Gracie played with them. She encouraged them to get up and move around.

When our oldest cat passed away, the remaining cat turned to Gracie for companionship.

She has truly been prayers answered and new light in mine, as well as my entire family's life.
