I am thinking of getting a jack russell pup not sure on bitch or male, I already have 2 wirehaired dachshunds one 10 and one 5 will they get on?
Which is best male or bitch and other advice please...
Hi Helen
It's usually best to add a pup of the opposite sex to your resident dog, but as you already have two dogs and I've no idea if they're the same sex or not, it's difficult to give you advice on that.
Generally speaking, two males will get along better than two females, but a lot depends on the resident dogs' personalities and temperaments. Also, whether or not they will accept a new puppy has a lot to do with how they generally get on with other dogs, and their individual personalities. You obviously know your dogs best so you'll need to use your own judgement and gut feeling here.
Adding a new pup to a household with older dogs who have an established 'pecking order' and routine can cause some upset at first, but often this is short-lived and peace returns when everyone 'gets a measure' of each other. I have a page on this site with lots of information and advice on this subject here... Introducing A New Puppy. I think it should help answer many of your questions.
Hope this helps, best of luck with whatever decision you make.
