American bulldog has bumps from head to tail and itches constantly

American bulldog has small bumps all over his body.

Scratches himself until he has open wounds on himself.

He acts fine, eats normally, seems happy just can't stop itching.

Hi
If your pup has a rash all over him and is itching constantly then in spite of the fact that he seems okay, he is most likely extremely uncomfortable!

One of the most common causes of rashes and itching are dog allergies and there are a range of possible triggers for these including seasonal stuff, dog food, fleas, contact allergies and more.

The next most likely culprit is another type of canine parasite - skin mites.

An itchy rash can be caused by these tiny critters and you'll also often see patchy hair loss on the face/body. The condition caused by mites is called Mange In Dogs. Bully breeds seem to be especially susceptible to this condition.

Mange can be diagnosed by your vet taking a skin scraping. Treatment is usually special shampoos or dips and is effective.

Dog allergy treatment options are varied, and it's also important to find the allergy 'trigger' and eliminate it so that the symptoms can not just be controlled, but eliminated.

I'd strongly recommend that you have your puppy examined by your vet so that you can find out what's causing this uncontrollable itching, and help him to feel better.

Best of luck with your puppy, hope he's doing much better soon.
