10 week old American bull dog pup male ran off our porch this evening into a bush when I brought him in I noticed that his right eye seemed swollen and rolled back. my first thought was that he'd detached a retina but my wife said it's just a shiner.
please help I don't have the money for a vet visit.
Hi Paul
It's impossible for me to tell what's wrong with your puppy I'm afraid but I would guess that this is more than just a 'shiner'. If the eye is rolled back as well as swollen it sounds as though there may be some serious damage there.
Whether he ran into something, or got something sharp in it... or damaged it in some other way... it's impossible to say. I do understand that veterinarian visits are expensive, but your puppy is relying on you to keep him safe and well and you absolutely need to have his eye examined by a vet.
If you leave it untreated, it could result in serious, long/term damage to his eye and/or his sight. If it gets infected it could also affect the rest of his body. This is unlikely to be something that will get better by itself, so please get your pup to a vet right away.
Some vets will let you set up a payment plan if the costs are going to be high, but it may not be as bad as you think. Whatever the cost, your pup needs help and it's important to find a way to get him professional care so call around local veterinary clinics or contact the humane society as they may be able to recommend a low-cost clinic.
I wish you the best of luck and hope that your pup is doing much better soon.
