We recently got a new Beagle puppy from a friend. It was fine. Then, we brought it home the dog constantly shakes it's head.
We don't know what it could be. Could you help! Thanks.
Hi Wimberly
Head shaking could be a sign of an ear infection, ear mites, or dog allergies or some sort.
If he's head bobbing (up and down rather than side to side), then possibly a neurological condition or some other health condition that's not visible.
If he's also lethargic and seem generally a bit 'out of it', he could be experiencing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). This is more common in the very tiny, toy breeds, but is a possibility.
I'm afraid I'm not a veterinarian and only a hands-on exam can tell you what is going on here, so I'd strongly recommend that you have your own vet take a look at your puppy. That way you can get any treatment started if necessary, and you'll be able to put your mind at rest.
Best of luck with your pup.
