I have a 7 month yorkie poo, he won't stop biting especially when he gets hyper he gets really aggressive with my daughter biting growling .
We have been firm and tried to be verbal, I have held her mouth closed and told her no, and I have tried the crate when she starts to bite I will put her in there, tonight she got very angry with me I held her mouth closed and when I let go she lunged at me barking.
What am I doing wrong????????????
Hi It doesn't sound as though you're doing anything wrong, your puppy is using her biting as a dominant behavior, and this is fairly common.
For a puppy with this sort of attitude, there's another method that would probably work better.
Buy a small water-spray bottle and set it to 'jet' not 'mist'. Whenever she starts to bite, give her a quick shot of water right in her mouth. She won't like it at all and will probably stop biting in surprise. Do this every single time she starts biting. It's often helpful to have several bottles (I'd definitely give your daughter one too) and make sure everyone does the same thing.
You can also do something similar using a small breath spray bottle. Most dogs don't appreciate the minty flavor and it has the same effect. With these sprays it's important not to spray it on her nose or in her eyes though, so you have to be accurate - a shot on her tongue works well.
As she is particularly bad with your daughter, you need to show this pup that she is at the bottom of the heap in terms of 'pecking order'.
Getting your daughter involved in feeding, grooming and training your pup will help. Let her realize that she needs to rely on your daughter for the basic necessities such as food, will elevate her status in her puppy eyes.
Best of luck, hope this helps. Just be patient and consistent and you will overcome this.
