my puppy didn't have any spots on his tongue when we got him at 16 weeks.
he is now a year old and has three or four spots of black on his tongue. it started as one at about 10 months and progressed since.
is this something to worry about?
Hi
It's unlikely that these spots are anything for you to be concerned about.
Some breeds have black spots or marks on their tongue, including Chow Chows, Australian Shepherds, the rare breed Ainu and others. A mixed breed puppy who has one of these breeds in his heritage could have these spots.
Sometimes the dark spots are there at birth, or shortly afterwards, sometimes they develop later on as the puppy grows. They are nothing to worry about.
Of course, there could be other reasons for these spots and you need to check with your veterinarian to make sure everything is normal and there's no health issue to worry about.
However, it's unlikely that these spots are anything other than normal pigmentation which is in your puppy's dna.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your pup.
