i have a 14 weelk old boxer who ive had for a week now. he seemed fine until yesterday when i took him on a 20 min walk. it was kind of cold and he stopped walking. he looked like his front legs were going to fold up under him so i carried him home. now his legs still look like they are going to foldup under him.
i have hardwood and ceramic floors and his feet slide so i don' t know if thats a factor. please help i paid 650 dollars to a back breeder and im in love with my puppy but i can't afford crazy medical bills that would come from a sick dog.
Hi Dennise
Well, it's impossible for me to say for sure what the problem is, but I'm afraid this is definitely something that a veterinarian needs to evaluate. It may be fairly simple, and not require extensive/expensive treatment, but unless it is diagnosed that could change. The faster you get a problem diagnosed and treated the simpler and less expensive it is.
Many large breed dogs have some joint pain as pups and during adolescence due to the speed of their growth. It could be that the walk in the cold caused your pup to experience some discomfort/pain/stiffness. Slippery surfaces are always tricky for pups to negotiate, they slip and slide and don't feel secure. Keeping his nails short will help somewhat with this.
If he's still having issues with his legs I would strongly suggest that you take him to a vet for evaluation. You paid a fair amount of money for this puppy, and unfortunately dogs are not cheap to care for, but it's part of the responsibility of puppy parenting.
I would also suggest that you look into getting some pet health insurance if unexpected veterinary bills are going to stretch your budget. For a low monthly payment you can protect yourself against expensive bills should your pup become seriously ill, be injured, or require emergency treatment.
Best of luck, I hope your pup is doing much better soon.
