burr or tick up nose

My 9 month old puppy has something up his nose and has been sneezing all day trying to free it, it could be a tick or it could be a wheathead, what can I do for him, no vet available so need to do something myself.

He was sneezing blood earlier, but not now and he is sneezing less often, his breathing is normal. Thanks in advance. Maria

Hi Maria
Whether it's a burr or a tick, chances are it's lodged itself pretty securely. The blood he was sneezing earlier was probably just from the surface irritation.

I'm not a veterinarian myself, but I wouldn't recommend poking or prodding your pups nostrils, or trying to remove this yourself. You could end up doing more harm than good. You could try to 'wash it out' using a sterile saline solution (the kind you would use for humans), but if it IS a tick or burr, I doubt that will actually remove it.

The only thing I can suggest is calling either your vet, or a local animal clinic or emergency hospital and asking their advice. I really think this is one of the situations where the remedy is best left to the professionals.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope you can get the situation resolved soon. Best of luck to you both.
