I am looking for a puppy that is a small version of the Rotti. I hear the above dogs are what I should be looking for.
My 11 year old Male rotti passed away and I don't want to get another due to its size.
Can you refer me to who you feel is a reputable person/place I can get one of these dogs. I don't want to buy one from a puppy mill.
I live in St. John's Newfoundland.
Any help is appreciated.
Hi Roxanne
I'm afraid I really don't know much about this particular breed, although I believe it began as a cross breeding between Miniature Pinschers and Pugs. It's a fairly recent hybrid breed.
It does have the Rottweiler coloring (black and rust pattern) but as far as I can tell that is the only resemblance between the breeds.
I own Rottweilers myself and am very familiar with their temperament. The Carlin Pinscher seems to share some of the Rottie characterstics (stability, dignity) but maintains many terrier personality traits (playful, vigorous and assertive). As far as my research has shown this breed can make good family dogs, and are not 'lap dogs', but whether they'll be anything like your Rottweiler is impossible to say.
The American Canine Hybrid Club ( www.achclub.com ) is the registering body for hybrid dogs, you may be able to find out more about reputable breeders there. Carlin Pinschers are not AKC registerable and I think your best bet in finding a puppy from a good breeder is to do plenty of research online, then visit any breeder you're interested in. As this is such a new breed, 'pedigree' and bloodlines are not nearly as easy to use to determine a 'quality dog' and the only way for you to evaluate a breeders puppies/dogs is to visit them and meet them.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but I hope you find the pup you're looking for. Best of luck!
