change in eating habits

(bordentown)

we recently adopted a 4 month old Catahoula/lab mix.. the only change we have seen since bringing him home is that he doesn't eat as much as when he first came home.

Prior to our home he was in a foster home with a few other dogs and some other puppies. he is only eating about 1/2 to 3/4 of what we give him.. do you think he is just comfortable and realized his food will still be there if he goes back in an hour??..

we are giving him the same thing his foster was feeding him. only thing we changed is that he gets rice and some chicken added to his evening meal. no change to his behavior or stool..

Thank you

Hi Jennifer
As long as your puppy seems happy, healthy and active I wouldn't worry too much about this sort of change in behavior.

Puppies go through lots of phases and stages and their appetites seem to go up and down along with these.

It's also very possible that now he's not surrounded by other dogs and pets that he doesn't feel the need to gorge himself on food in case someone else eats it instead!

If he shows any other signs of not feeling well then have him checked out by your vet, otherwise I personally wouldn't be concerned.

Best of luck with your pup.
