Chihuahua pup with painful bowel movements

when I weaned my puppy at 6 wks. to dry dog food, he began to cry with bowel movements. The stool is soft, but seems to be unable to pass.

Hi Diane
Puppies can suffer from constipation at times, and it seems to be especially common in tiny/toy breeds.

When you first switch over to dry puppy food (and make sure you're using a premium brand puppy kibble especially formulated for small breed pups), soaking it in warm water for 10 minutes or so is a good idea. It makes it easier for the pup to eat and digest, and can also help prevent the problem you're seeing.

Luckily there are several simple things you can do to help relieve your pups discomfort and soften the stools. You should be able to find all the tips and advice you need on my Constipated Puppy page.

As your puppy is a Chihuahua, you may also find my Chihuahua Puppy Care page interesting.

Best of luck, hope your little guy is feeling better soon.
