clumsy puppy - what's wrong with him?

why is my mini schnauzer so clumsy?

i have hard wood floors inside but he`s clumsy in the yard too.

Hi
Puppies are clumsy because they're babies and depending on how old your pup is, it may just be that he's not fully in control of his limbs, motion and so on just yet.

Large and giant breed puppies are notoriously clumsy and run into things all the time! Smaller breeds are generally a bit more co-ordinated, but the smaller ones can be a bit slower developmentally than the larger ones in the early weeks.

Wood floors or other smooth, slick surfaces are always difficult for puppies, and even older dogs, to negotiate as there is no traction for them. In larger breeds particularly this can lead to joint problems, and even in smaller ones it can be troublesome. If you can put down some cheap 'runners' or strips of carpet on the most heavily trafficked areas that may help your pup.

However, if he seems to be constantly falling over or bumping into things, or really has more than the average amount of baby clumsiness, I'd recommend having your vet check him out to make sure all is well. There is always a possibility that there's a health condition causing extreme difficulties in this area but it's fairly unusual.

Hope this helps, best of luck.
