Constipation in dachshund puppy

My mini doxie seems to be constipated. She whines, bites her back leg and constantly licks her backend. She ate a little bit today.

She plays alright and tonight she is back whining. What do I do.

Hi Beth
If your pup hasn't had a bowel movement for a day, and is showing these symptoms, she may well be constipated.

Puppy Constipation isn't terribly unusual, especially in the tiny and toy breeds. There are a couple of things you can do to try to get her digestive system moving again, and I'd recommend you check out my A Constipated Puppy page as it has lots of tips and advice. It also gives you info. on how to prevent this happening again.

If the at-home remedies don't work fairly quickly, I'd recommend taking your pup to your veterinarian for an examination. She may need a small enema to get everything cleared out, and your vet will know how to do this.
