dog hair loss

by maria
(dallas)

I have a 4 moth old pitbull and today i saw some bald spots the size of a pea's on his back.

Is it because he is wearing a head cone?

Hi
I can't say for sure what is causing his bald spots I'm afraid, but if he's wearing something that is rubbing constantly in a certain area it's possible that could cause irritation and hair loss.

However, there are also certain skin conditions that cause patchy hair loss. One of the most common ones is Mange, and Pitbulls are one of the breeds that can be prone to developing this condition.

Your vet can make a diagnosis of mange, or whatever else is causing the problem, so I'd recommend getting your pup a check up with your vet soon. That way you can get him any treatment if necessary.

Best of luck with your pup.

Dog hair loss.

It could be due to the rubbing of the head cone or the hiar loss could be due to a number of causes of a potentially serious nature.

One cause could be stress-related by your dog being irritated by having to wear the collar. Stress can cause hair loss in dogs.

Mites or mange may be present or developing. Treatment by medicated special shampoo could help.

Or it could even be an allergic reaction.

The key here is obviously to find the cause and treat it. This URL might help with some ideas:

If the condition does not improve or the hair loss becomes more noticeable then a trip to the vet is in order for professional diagnosis and treatment options.

Good luck - hope you get to the bottom of it.
