my 1 year old dog has a very red tongue. It has always been that way.
Hi Derrick
A dog whose tongue is normally pink but turns bright red can mean there's a health issue such as over-heating or heatstroke, heart problems, poisoning and so on.
However if your dogs' tongue has always been like this and he's perfectly healthy, then it's likely nothing to worry about.
Some breeds, like the Puli, naturally have very red tongues, it's just a breed characteristic. If you're concerned or your dog seems unwell in any way then talk to your vet and ask their opinion. Best of luck.
