Drooling

My 6 month old puppy is suddenly drooling...a lot! Normal behavior and appetite, just the drooling. Could he be cutting a tooth?

Hi Jess
It's possible that he's cutting a tooth, the last permanent teeth to come in are the front canines ('fangs') at around 6 months of age. However, excessive drooling isn't necessarily a symptom many dogs suffer from.

It's possible that your pup has hurt his mouth/throat in some way, got something lodged in his teeth/throat or has eaten/drank something he shouldn't that is causing him to drool.

I'd recommend taking a close look inside his mouth, look for any foreign objects, red/swollen areas etc. If you can't see anything, or you find something that you can't remove or see signs of infection - take him to your veterinarian right away.

Your vet will be able to see/remove anything that is causing the problem, and treat him if necessary.

The fact that your pup is eating, drinking and acting normally is good, but do check with your vet to be on the safe side.

Best of luck
