Feeding two dogs at once, Puppy and 2 year old.

Our two year old Pom dog won't go into kitchen to eat with our five month old German shepherd
Puppy.

Our German shepherd will also eat the pom's food what can I do?

Hi
Well, for now I would recommend feeding them separately at set times of day, and not allowing them to 'free feed' where the food bowls are accessible at all times.

Protecting their food from other dogs is a fairly normal canine behavior, and in a puppy who has come from a large litter, who hasn't been fed enough previously, or who is very dominant in personality, food guarding can sometimes become an issue.

Obviously it's important that your dogs allow you and other family members to touch their bowl, or lift it up, while they're eating - this will prevent food guarding behavior later on. You can learn on this webpage... Dog Food Aggression

As your Pom is much smaller than your GSD you will need to protect him from injury if your pup gets bossy around his food bowl. Correct the puppy verbally if he growls or snaps. However, if it's just that the Pom is afraid of the bigger pup and is too nervous to eat, simply feed him in a different area or at a different time.

Best of luck with your dogs.
