so I got a new puppy now she is about four months old named pearl and I just took her to the vet today. She got treated for tapeworms and her vaccines. Now I don't know if I should clean everywhere where she has sat before she got treated.
She would wipe her butt on the floor and mats and love to sleep on the couch or in my laps.
Is there a way we could of got tapeworms by carrying her around and letting her lick us after licking everywhere in her body?
Hi Dunia
Tapeworms are one of the most common types of puppy worms. They're spread by fleas, so as well as treating your pup for the worms you'll need to make sure that you use a good flea and tick preventative, such as 4 MONTH K 9 ADVANTIX Blue (for dogs over 55lbs.).
It is possible for both roundworms and tapeworms to be transferred to humans, but is more common in children and toddlers as they're not as fastidious about personal hygiene and spend a lot of time with their hands/fingers in their mouths!
To pick up tapeworms you'd pretty much have to have eaten one of the fleas that transmit them, or got your puppy's poop in your mouth, and that's pretty unlikely.
However if you have any concerns do talk it over with your veterinarian and your doctor to put your mind at rest. Best of luck with your pup.
