Great Dane Breathing Problem.

My two and a half week old Great Dane started grunting while he is breathing. His breathing has increased. He also may sound a little wheezy while trying to breath.

He is the smallest out of the 11 we have. His appetite has decreased and is starting to feel frail and bony.

I am getting worried about him and wondering what should I do and what it could be?

Hi Katy
You need to get this little guy examined by your veterinarian right away. It sounds as though he has an upper respiratory tract infection, and if not treated this can develop into pneumonia fairly quickly - which could be fatal to such a young puppy.

Treated early and correctly, he should make a full recovery but every day you wait increases the risk of serious problems, so please have him seen right away.

Best of luck, hope he makes a full recovery and soon.

Unfourtunetly the puppy died 20 mins before his doctors appt. Can an upper respitory infection be contagious to other puppies?
